Ο Τζον Κέιλ, ο Ουαλός μουσικός που έγραψε ιστορία με τους Velvet Underground, έρχεται στο Ηρώδειο για μια μουσική αναδρομή σε μια πορεία που καλύπτει πάνω από έξι δεκαετίες, με αρκετό κλασικό υλικό αλλά και τραγούδια από τον νέο του δίσκο Mercy, που έχει λάβει διθυραμβικές κριτικές από τον παγκόσμιο μουσικό τύπο.

Συνθέτης, τραγουδιστής, τραγουδοποιός και δισκογραφικός παραγωγός ροκ, drone, κλασικής, αβανγκάρντ και ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής, ο Κέιλ με τον Λου Ριντ, με μάνατζερ τον Άντι Γουόρχολ και μούσα τη Nico, υπήρξαν οι δημιουργοί των Velvet Underground, ενός από τα πιο αγαπημένα αβανγκάρντ συγκροτήματα όλων των εποχών. Το 1996 μπήκε στο Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ενώ έχει τιμηθεί με το παράσημο του Τάγματος της Βρετανικής Αυτοκρατορίας. Μαθητής του Ιάννη Ξενάκη και του Τζον Κέιτζ, στενός φίλος και συνεργάτης του Μπράιαν Ίνο, με πάνω από 20 προσωπικούς δίσκους στο ενεργητικό του, ο Τζον Κέιλ είναι ο παραγωγός που ανακάλυψε εμβληματικά ονόματα της ροκ όπως η Πάτι Σμιθ, ο Ίγκι Ποπ, οι Squeeze, ο Τζόναθαν Ρίτσμαν, κ.ά.

Μαζί του στη σκηνή η Athens Philharmonia Orchestra και φυσικά η μπάντα του. Η παράσταση σχεδιάζεται ειδικά για το μνημείο με καθηλωτικές προβολές και  πρωτότυπες ενορχηστρώσεις σε παγκόσμια πρωτιά και αποκλειστικότητα.

Ο John Cale εμφανίζεται στο Ωδείο Ηρώδου Αττικού στο πλαίσιο του Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών Επιδαύρου 2023.

John Cale, the Welsh musician who made history with the Velvet Underground, will perform at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus: a musical journey through a career spanning six decades, with plenty of classic material as well as songs from his newest album Mercy, which has received glowing reviews from the international music press. Composer, singer, songwriter and record producer of rock, drone, classical, avant-garde and electronic music, Cale and Lou Reed, with Andy Warhol as their manager and Nico as a muse of sorts, founded the Velvet Underground, one of the most beloved avant-garde bands of all time. In 1996, Cale was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He has also been appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire. A student of Iannis Xenakis and John Cage, close friend and collaborator of Brian Eno, with over 20 solo albums under his belt, Cale is also the producer who discovered iconic figures of rock music, including, but not limited to, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Squeeze and Jonathan Richman.

Joining him on the stage are the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra and, of course, his band, presenting a performance specially conceived for the Roman Odeon, a world premiere featuring orchestra and immersive visuals.
